Growing up in predominantly White societies has shaped me in ways I could never have imagined. As the only Brown-skinned kid in my primary school and one of just a handful in my secondary school, I spent much of those crucial, formative years feeling out of place, unwelcome, and unsafe. So fast forward the best part of three decades, it is perhaps unsurprising that so much of my work involves supporting organisations to create cultures where people feel welcomed, included, and like they belong. For many of us, what shapes our direction in life is a deep need to create the kind of world that we, ourselves, needed as kids.
Today, I channel that mission into my work as an author, speaker, consultant, and owner of Bluestone Edge, a consultancy dedicated to transforming organisational cultures, enhancing leadership, and optimising performance. With a background in psychology and extensive experience in high-performance environments, I specialise in helping organisations build workplaces that are inclusive, equitable, and primed for excellence.
In my book, The Antiracist Organisation: How to Drive an Inclusive and High-Performance Workplace Culture by Dismantling Structural Racism, I provide a clear and actionable framework for leaders committed to dismantling structural discrimination and fostering cultures of belonging. This work is deeply personal to me, as it offers a roadmap for creating environments where everyone – not just some – can thrive. By addressing structural inequities, I believe organisations can unlock the true potential of their people while achieving sustainable high performance.
